uses an "economic input output LCA" approach, which looks at macroeconomic data
and emissions data to create a model of the GHG emissions intensity of various
sectors of the economy. There are many caveats to using this approach
(e.g., focuses on production of products only, it is a linear
approach so that producing a $40,000 car has twice the impact of a $20,000 car,
etc.). Notwithstanding those and other caveats, there is a publicly
available version for the U.S. economy at <A

Carnegie Mellon University initiative). It may be useful to give you a very
rough approximation of what you are looking for; at least to compare products to
other elements of your inventory.</FONT></SPAN></DIV>

complex issue and certainly it is something we have been looking at in the

commissioned research on the issue and from a Carbon inventory approach the
report below is useful. There is also a lot of work going on in the UK
at the moment investigating supply chain associated CO<SUB>2</SUB> emissions
and I have recently seen an interesting model from Envirowise (AEA) – that
includes “materials carbon footprint” in business overall carbon footprint.

the draft GHG inventory for the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City
w:st="on">Washington</st1:City> <st1:State
w:st="on">DC</st1:State></st1:place> region. Is anyone aware of a
method/activity data/emission factor that could be used to develop an
assessment of CO2 emission that could be “attributed” to consumption of
consumer products? We certainly don’t have the time to do a life
cycle assessment for each product sold in the region, but clearly some (most)
of the products the region consumes cause (either directly or indirectly) GHG
emissions in their production and distribution. If anyone can refer me
to a simplified approach for such a calculation, I’d appreciate it.
