valuable contributions to our understanding of how land use and forestry
activities can contribute to the fight against global climate change. He
was an innovative, yet practically-minded thinker whose advice was sought by
researchers, policymakers, and project developers alike. Bernhard was a
trusted friend to many around the world, generously sharing his time and vast
knowledge with the belief that what was good for the cause…was also good for
